The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Civil & Structural Engineer – (Coastal Engineering) to work with our client on a project in Warrington.
This is a permanent, full-time, site-based opportunity supporting the delivery of complex coastal and marine engineering solutions within the nuclear industry.
The successful candidate will deliver coastal and marine engineering assessments and design support, including work relating to coastal protection and marine structures, within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment.
Due to the nature of the project, candidates will need to be eligible to obtain the appropriate UK security clearance. Candidates must be able to satisfy the relevant clearance requirements to work on the programme.
We are ideally looking for candidates with previous experience in coastal or marine engineering, preferably within the nuclear industry or another highly regulated/safety-critical sector. However, we also welcome engineers with strong transferable experience from major infrastructure, energy, environmental or other regulated industries.
The Role
As a Senior Civil & Structural Engineer you will support the team within the programme, delivering coastal and marine engineering assessments and design support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering coastal and marine engineering assessments and design support for the programme, including coastal protection and marine structures.
- Producing and reviewing engineering calculations, numerical models, technical reports, specifications and design documentation.
- Supporting the development of design substantiation and technical justifications to meet project, regulatory and governance requirements.
- Collaborating with civil, structural, geotechnical, environmental and wider multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated engineering solutions.
- Undertaking assessments of coastal processes, wave loading, scour, flooding, erosion and climate change impacts on infrastructure.
- Participating in design reviews, technical assurance activities and the resolution of engineering queries.
- Ensuring designs comply with applicable codes, standards, quality requirements and CDM 2015 obligations.
- Supporting the effective management of technical interfaces across the wider programme.
About You
We are looking for a degree-qualified Civil Engineer with relevant coastal or marine engineering experience.
Ideally, you will be working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or be able to demonstrate equivalent professional experience.
You should have:
- A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Proven experience working on coastal or marine engineering projects.
- Experience assessing environmental and operational loadings, including wave action, flooding, scour and erosion.
- Understanding of climate change impacts and climate resilience in relation to infrastructure.
- Familiarity with design substantiation, technical reporting and engineering assurance processes.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage technical interfaces.
- Experience using relevant coastal, hydraulic or numerical modelling software.
- Strong communication, problem-solving and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience working within structured engineering design and assurance processes.
Desirable Experience
It would also be advantageous if you have:
- Previous experience within the nuclear industry, particularly nuclear new-build projects.
- Experience working on coastal or marine infrastructure within highly regulated or safety-critical environments.
- Experience with coastal protection structures, marine structures or cooling water infrastructure.
- Experience of coastal process assessment and numerical modelling.
- Experience assessing the effects of extreme weather and climate change on infrastructure. • Knowledge or experience of American codes and standards.
- Experience working across major infrastructure, energy or other regulated projects.
- Familiarity with BIM and digital engineering workflows.
- Experience engaging with clients, regulators, environmental bodies or other key stakeholders.
Nuclear & Security Clearance Requirements
This role will be supporting a project within the nuclear industry, so previous experience within the nuclear sector or another highly regulated/safety-critical environment is highly desirable.
Candidates must be eligible to obtain the required UK security clearance for the project.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo the relevant security vetting and clearance process before undertaking certain project activities. Previous experience of nuclear new-build projects would be particularly advantageous.
However, we also welcome applications from engineers considering a move into the nuclear sector, particularly those with transferable experience from coastal, marine, infrastructure, energy, environmental or other regulated and safety-critical industries.
